Grader: Stephen Lacina, LAU 108, slacina@ncsu.edu, Office Hour: Mon 2:00-3:00.

Textbook: No textbook will be required. The lecture is self-contained.
Reference: Introduction to Linear Algebra by Jim DeFranza and Daniel Gagliardi.
Objectives: Learn how to solve and prove linear system of equations, using vector-matrix notations.
Prerequisites: MA 241 (Credit is not allowed for both MA 305 and MA 405)

Homeworks: HW1, HW2, HW3
Supplement: Proof of det(a,c) + det(b,c) = det(a+b,c) , Pioneers of Matrix Decompositions, ImageCompression, class.jpg, Watermark, original.jpg, watermark.jpg, convolution.pdf

Grading: The letter grade will be determined from the total numeric grade as follows:
Letter Grade A+ A A- B+ B B- C+ C C- D+ D D- F
Total Numeric Grade >= 97.00 >= 93.00 >= 90.00 >= 87.00 >= 83.00 >= 80.00 >= 77.00 >= 73.00 >= 70.00 >= 67.00 >= 63.00 >= 60.00 < 60.00

The total numeric grade will be the sum of several numeric grades as follows:
Type Midterm 1 Midterm 2 Midterm 3 Final Attendance Total
Max Numeric grade 20 20 20 35 5 100

Midterm 1     Feb 7 (Thu). Answer
Midterm 2     Mar 19 (Tue). Answer
Midterm 3     Apr 18 (Thu). Answer
Final May 7 (Tue). 8:00-11:00 AM

All tests are closed book/notes.
You should bring calculators to the tests.
However, you are NOT allowed to bring computer algebra systems such as Maple to the tests.
Attendance: Required .
The attendance grade is calculated as "5 * the number of attended classes / the total number of classes".
(Officially excused absence will be counted toward attended classes).
Seats will be assigned at the beginning of the semester.
Instructor will not provide extra-help on missed lectures, unless there is an official excuse.
Attitude: You must not harm others by talking (even quietly) during the lecture unless the instructor gave you the permission to do so.
